Reality Game: Blue vs Green

Twelve people make up a reality game. They are formed into two groups, blue and green. They compete in scenarios, players being eliminated one at a time. When one team is gone, the remaining players on the other team decide how to split the money.

The twelve participants meet at a house in the countryside. After some pleasantries are exchanged, the groups are chosen. Each group has three men and three women. They are all in their 20's.
Each group is given track suits of their designated colour.

One group is Ryan, Tom, Barry, Jan, Sandra and Katie. They choose a team leader. Barry is a tall and muscular, the oldest of the group at 29. He is a former soldier and is very confident. He is chosen as the leader of the blue team.

The other group is Harry, Dave, Ron, Pippa, Lisa and Chloe. Pippa is a fitness instructor, 26, athletic and has an authoritative air. She is chosen as the leader of the green team.

The host and judge is Mal. Ex-navy and not one to be messed with. He has a few introductory words,
Mal: Right, listen up. Twelve of you, two teams, one prize. Who remains of the winning team splits fifty grand between them, or not. The losing team gets nothing. Simple as that. The first challenge starts tomorrow at dawn. Don't be late.

They mix and mingle among their teams, their outfits reminding them that they are different sides.

The next day they assemble outside.
Mal: There is a cart that needs to be pulled and pushed up that hill. At the first marker, you stop and two jump on the cart. At the second marker, two more jump on. The last two then have to get the cart over the line. No time to wait. Go.

Both teams set off and by the first marker the blue team leads.
Barry: Sandra and Katie get on.
Sandra: I'm fine, get Jan on.
Jan: No, get Sandra on.
Barry: Sandra, get on. Sandra refuses.
Barry: Sandra, GET ON.
Jan: I'll get on.

By this time the green team are there. Lisa and Chloe just get on without a fuss, seemingly agreed to before the marker was reached. They now have the lead. The second marker is reached and the green team is just ahead. Again a seamless transition, Ron and Pippa jumping on. Harry and Dave are now struggling but pushing on.
Barry: Ryan and Sandra get on.
Sandra: I'm fine, get Tom on.
Tom: I'm knackered, I need to get on.
Ryan: I feel good. Hop on Sandra.
Sandra: I'm not getting on.
Barry: Sandra, get on now.
Sandra: NO. GET RYAN ON. Ryan jumps on and they head for the finish line, now hopelessly behind.

Mal is there to greet them: Well blue team, you have lost. Vote to eliminate someone from your team when you get back to the lodge. Think about who needs to go. They walk back, nothing said. Then they gather in the dinning room, the green team in the lounge shouting with joy.

The blue team assemble.

Barry: We will vote as to who goes. Any comments first? After a brief silence, they discuss.
Jan: I have something to say. Sandra, I know you are fit, but you did not get on when asked. Twice. That cost us the race.
Sandra: I knew I could push further, I was trying to help.
Ryan: You may have been correct, but your behaviour made the decision as to who should do what redundant.
Katie: Sandra should go.
Tom: I agree.
Barry: Ok, vote now. All raise their hands for Sandra except her.
She stands up: Fine. She packs up and leaves in a huff.

The blue team spend the evening discussing what went wrong and how to avoid it again. Tom suggests that they agree beforehand who does what in future.
Ryan: We are a player down now. Depending on the challenges, that could be very difficult.
They eat separately to the green team, quiet compared to the other side’s chipper conversation.

The next day Mal comes to tell them what's next. They have to row a boat across a lake, run to a point and each carry a weighted sack back to the boat and return them to where the task started. 

The blue team’s rowing is harder with only two on one side but with Barry working his big frame, they keep a steady course and are first across the lake.
Barry: I'll carry two sacks back.
They are neck and neck as they get back in the boats. The green team are veering all over the lake as Blue ploughs to victory.
Mal: Blue team win.

The green team have a heated argument about who was at fault. Pippa seems to be losing control as Ron shouts at Chloe, who blames Dave. Meanwhile, the blue team celebrates their win and congratulate each other on a job well done.

The next day Mal greets them: The green team have voted off Chloe. Today, the challenge is an obstacle course. One person will do each section. The fastest team wins.
The blue team discusses who will do what section. Barry says he will do the rope climb, Tom will do the monkey bars, Katie will do the balance beam, Jan will do the tyre run and Ryan will do the sprint at the end.
The green team now seem disjointed and lack cohesion. Pippa seems stressed and unsure who to put where. Blue win easily and the green team vote off Dave.

The next challenge involves blindfolded players negotiating a small obstacle course with the other team members shouting out instructions. 

It is won by blue so there are five players to three left as Lisa was automatically eliminated for being the poorest performer of the green team.

Mal: To even things up, one player from blue must cross over. Blue, choose which player from your team will cross. They are stunned.
Barry: We have a strong team now, but to give them a chance, I think Ryan should go. Ryan’s shocked.
Barry: You are strong and a good competitor, but Katie and Jan are stronger, Tom is fitter.
Ryan: Is that unanimous? They all say yes. Ryan gets a green track suit given to him, but is now determined to prove them wrong. He has been holding back a bit, but no longer. The green team then meet.
Pippa: Ryan, welcome. We must win the next contest for our morale. Harry and Ron look to him hopefully.

The next day, Mal assembles them: An orienteering race is what you face today. You will use a specialized topographic map and a compass to navigate an unfamiliar route and locate a series of checkpoints in a set sequence. 

Players will be placed along the route and pass on the compass and map to the next player as a relay. You then all converge on the last checkpoint and run as a team back here. The first team to have all members back wins. The teams will run in opposite directions to each other.

Pippa: Let's decide the order. How about Ryan, me, Harry and Ron. They all agree. Ryan sets off and having a good command of direction and map reading makes good time. 

He soon reaches Pippa. Pippa looks pleased. She quickly says: You made amazing time Ryan. Let's win this. She sets off.

At the half way point the teams cross, so it's close. Each team converges on the final check point, those no longer racing taking a short cut to get there before their anchor does. 

Then it's a race to the finish line. Green arrives and the blue team is not complete. The blue team's Jan got confused and got temprarily lost, costing them any chance of winning. 

The green team are declared the winners.

Harry: We won!

Pippa hugs Ryan: You were amazing Ryan. Glad to have you on our team. The others nod in agreement.

The blue team arrive, clearly confused as to how one member got lost.
Mal: Green team win. Barry glares at Ryan as he smiles back. 

So this time, for a change, it's the winning team that vote off a player from the other side. They all agree it's Barry.
Barry: This is rubbish. He storms off. It's now four vs three in the green team's favour. Tom is now the leader for the blue team.

Mal: Today you go into a bush area which is fenced in. You each have laser taggers. There are twenty minutes. If you are hit. a sensor sounds and you must come back here. Good luck. They move off in different directions. After today, there will be a winning team.
Pippa: We need to go in pairs, Ryan, you and I. Ron and Harry the other team.
The blue side have Katie and Jan together with Tom alone.
Ron: Tom is vulnerable on his own.
Pippa: We can circle him.

They stalk Tom who seems unaware they are there. Pippa gestures to Ryan to get behind him. He nods. As Tom turns to shoot Ryan, Pippa hits him. Tom is out. Green team members Ron and Harry are hit by Blue's Katie and Jan. 

Pippa and Ryan move towards Katie and Jan. They keep together, on the move but crouching. They use large trees as shields as they plot their next move forward. Ryan glances across at Pippa, his heart pounding. She looks back and smiles. They say nothing. Then Ryan peeks and sees Katie making a dart for it. He hits her. Pippa then sees Jan stop as she realises what happened. Pippa doesn't miss. The green team win. 

Pippa: We won,  and they hug, her toned body from her employment in fitness exuding strength. 

They get back to the lodge. Jan and Katie pack up and leave. The winners are directed to a courtyard by the lodge and each are given a chalk and a slate.

Mal: I said at the beginning the winning team splits fifty grand between them, or not. You must write down what to do with the money. If you both put 'share', that's what you do. If one puts 'share' and the other says 'keep', the one saying 'keep' gets it all. If both say 'keep', then no one gets it.

They both write down their decision.
Mal: Your decision, Ryan?
Ryan: Share.
Mel: Pippa? Pippa pauses then turns her board toward Ryan.
Pippa: Share. They both smile.
Mel: You both win. They embrace.
Mal: Let's celebrate. The top of the bubbly comes off and fluted glasses are produced. Pippa and Ryan cross-arm drink.

Then Mal escorts them to a dining room with two seats and a small buffet selection. They sit and smile.
Ryan: When they sent me across to your team, I was determined to prove them wrong. To play alongside you Pippa was a privilege and a pleasure. You were a great leader.
Pippa: I'm glad you were with me Ryan. You made all the difference. They enjoy the meal together.

After eating, they take a walk outside. The night air is cool and fresh. The moon is full.
Ryan: Tomorrow, we go back to our respective lives. Richer materially but even more so the richer for the experience.
Pippa: We may be going back to separate lives... she stops and looks at Ryan, but perhaps we don't have to be apart.
Ryan: Would you like our adventure to continue?
Pippa: Yes. She moves closer and kisses Ryan.
Ryan: How could I say no to a kiss like that?
Pippa: You can't. They laugh and walk back to the lodge hand in hand.
Mal comes to the lodge door: I'm glad you both won, in more ways than one.
Ryan: Thanks Mal. They enter the lodge and go to their separate bedrooms. In the morning they exchange numbers. They hug and go to leave for their respective homes.
Pippa: Talk soon?
Ryan: Of course we will. We have so much to talk about and getting to know more about each other.
Pippa: You bet we do.
